The costs of adoption can range from a minimal amount to thousands of dollars, placing adoption financially out of reach for many families. At Adoption Advocacy, we feel that high costs not only limit the possibility for a family, but it also limits the opportunities for adoption for a child in foster care.
In an effort to reduce costs, we have partnered with Adopt America for over 20 years to assist with the costs of the initial home study. Families that qualify for the Adopt America grant will receive a free home study to be used for the purpose of adopting an older child in foster care. The grant is not income based, rather based on the likely hood of the family being placed with a child in foster care. The post placement supervision is provided by the placing state with which we have a contract, thus eliminating the costs to the family.
The costs that the family will incur are primarily in the travel to visit with the child in their sending state. The family should be prepared to cover transportation to and from the placing state, meals, lodging, and other cost of activities while visiting with the child. As a travel-friendly reminder, the family should have a valid driver’s license and credit card for renting a car, if needed, and the hotel bill.
